The GIMP, een acroniem dat staat voor ‘GNU Image Manipulation Program’, is een fotobewerkingsprogramma en wordt door velen beschouwd als de opensource tegenhanger van Adobe Photoshop en Corel Paint Shop Pro. Het programma is beschikbaar voor verschillende besturingssystemen zoals Linux, Mac OS X en Windows. De ontwikkelaars hebben de eerste bugfix-release in de 2.4-reeks uitgebracht met 2.4.1 als het versienummer. De aankondiging en lijst met aanpassingen zien er als volgt uit:

Only a week after the 2.4.0 release, the GIMP developers have put out a first bug-fix release in the stable GIMP 2.4 series. Here’s a list of changes since 2.4.0:

• fixed a minor display rendering problem
• improved the workaround for broken graphics card drivers (bug #421466)
• fixed a crash with broken scripts and plug-ins (bug #490055)
• fixed potential syntax error in configure script (bug #490068)
• fixed parsing of floating point numbers in Script-Fu (bug #490198)
• fixed potential crash when converting an indexed image to RGB (bug #490048)
• update the histogram while doing color corrections (bug #490182)
• fixed another crash with broken plug-ins (bug #490617)
• fixed problems on Win32 when GIMP is installed into a non-ASCII path
• fixed handling of truncated ASCII PNM files (bug #490827)
• make sure that there’s always a cursor, even for small brushes (bug #491272)
• fixed line-drawing with a tablet and the Shift key (bug #164240)
• added code to use the system monitor profile on OS X (bug #488170)
• show changes to the rounded corners in the Rectangle Select tool (bug #418284)
• reduced rounding errors in the display render routines (bug #490785)
• translation updates (ca, de, et, lt, mk, pa, sv)

Mozilla heeft vanmorgen een nieuwe versie van Firefox beschikbaar gesteld. Het gaat om versie 2.0.0.9, die vanaf deze map voor Linux, Mac OS X en Windows gedownload kan worden. Firefox is een opensource webbrowser die standaard voorzien is van tabbed browsing, een pop-up blocker en een rss-reader. Daarnaast is het mogelijk extra functionaliteiten toe te voegen door middel van add-ons en het uiterlijk van Firefox via themes te wijzigen. Maandag maakten de ontwikkelaars van Firefox bekend dat in de 2.0.0.8-release vijf kritieke bugs werden ontdekt en dat er hard gewerkt werd aan een nieuwe versie. Een van de bugs die verholpen zou zijn, is verantwoordelijk voor het niet inschakelen van add-ons. Welke bugs precies geplet zijn, is nog niet bekendgemaakt. Wel hebben de developers een lijst samengesteld van de op te lossen bugs:

The 2.0.0.8 release fixed some 200 issues, but accidentally regressed a few things. Most users won’t see any difference or experience any problems, and those 200 fixes make the 2.0.0.8 update very valuable, but you should never have to choose functionality over security. So we’re working fast to understand and fix these problems, and will shortly be issuing a 2.0.0.9 update to address them. The specific problems are:

• Bug 400406 – Firefox will ignore the “clear” CSS property when used beneath a box that is using the “float” property. There is a temporary workaround JS/CSS code available for web developers with affected layouts.
• Bug 400467 – Windows Vista users will get “Java not found” or “Java not working” errors when trying to load Java applets after updating. To fix this, users can right-click the Firefox icon and “Run as administrator”, then browse to a page with a Java applet — doing this once will fix the problem and permanently restore Java functionality.
• Bug 396695 – Add-ons are disabled after updating. Users can fix this problem by opening their profile folder and removing three files (extensions.rdf, extensions.ini and extensions.cache)
• Bug 400421 – Removing a single area element from an image map will cause the entire map to disappear. There is no workaround available at this time.
• Bug 400735 – Some Windows users may experience crashes at startup. There is no workaround available at this time.
