SSL-Explorer 0.2.15 released

SSL-Explorer version 0.2.15 has been released. SSL-Explorer is the world’s first open-source, browser based SSL VPN solution. This unique remote access security solution provides users and businesses alike with a means of securely accessing network resources from outside the network perimeter using only a standard web browser.

The 0.2.15 release provides a number of important bug fixes to many areas of the system (see change log below).

Installing software the easy way

I just discovered webpin, a web based search engine for repositories. Webpin will automatically register new repositories and use libzypp for dependency resolution, leaving you with very little to do, while the packages are downloaded and installed quickly and transparently.

Pretty Cool!

BTW: as you can see Compiz Fusion is now available from the official repository: http://software.opensuse.org/download/X11:/XGL/openSUSE_10.2

WordPress 2.3 beta 1

The past 3 months we’ve been working feverishly on the next version of WordPress, 2.3. Today we’re releasing the first beta of 2.3 and we’re hoping the more adventurous and savvy among you will help us test it.

Some of the features of 2.3 include plugin and core update notification, built-in tags support, faster javascript, and SEO-friendly URL redirection.

However all of the new functionality is still very rough, so only test the beta if you are comfortable troubleshooting PHP issues, filing tickets, and backing up your data religiously.

Compiz Fusion Community News Edition 13

Summary: Hello and thanks for reading! We’ve made some exiting progress this week in bugs, features and the website. Just to get this out of the way, it is now safe to upgrade Compiz Fusion as we have fixed most plugins against the new action system and we have also fixed (and done some major changes) to the action handling in LibCompizConfig and CompizConfig Settings Manager. Hope you enjoy this entry!

News in bugs:

  • Fixed most plugins against the new action system. One popular one that hasn’t been fixed yet is the Screensaver plugin by Nicholas Viennot. I have provided a patch on the forum to fix this.
  • Fix group-tab crashes when you drag from one group to another
  • ‘Widget’ option removed from Window Rules as it’s now provided by widget
  • You can use return, backspace and escape to cancel a keybinding being set in CCSM
  • ‘All’ category added to CCSM
  • LibCompizConfig and CCSM adapted to use new action system, you should now be able to configure your actions again.

News in Feautres:

Well, a lot more happened in features this week. Notable points being the CCSM action re-haul, which is now a lot more user friendly.

CCSM Re-Haul

Well, the CompizConfig Settings Manager action configuration has now been re-hauled. Now, instead of one actions page which has the settings for all key, button, bell and edge bindings, we now have actions placed appropriately in groups, where existing options may already be, where is makes sense. Some screenshots are below.

openSuse 10.3 beta 2

The openSUSE Team is proud to announce the release of openSUSE 10.3 Beta 2. Though this release should not be used on any production machines, everyone can help shape this release by testing out installations and much more. For more information on the release schedule, take a look at the Roadmap.

Technical Changes:

  • Linux 2.6.22.3
  • glibc 2.6.1
  • YaST infrastructure improved to allow writing complete YaST modules without using YCP (e.g. exclusively in Perl, Python or Ruby)
  • Bootloader-related improvements: openSUSE 10.3 will use “chainloader” if it detects additional installations’ bootloader code in other partitions, otherwise “configfile” sections will be used (see Call for Testing below!)
  • Improved package lists of 1-CD GNOME and KDE
  • Countless bug fixes, all over the place
