Novellcongres.nl Bootable SUSE Linux USB key

Als bezoeker van Novellcongres.nl heb je een bootable USB

 

key ontvangen met daarop OpenSUSE Linux versie 10.3.

Je kunt hier het image van de USB key downloaden tot 30 juni 2008. Op deze pagina lees je hoe je het image op de USB key kunt plaatsen.

De organisatie van Novellcongres.nl is niet verantwoordelijk voor schade die is ontstaan door gebruik van dit image of door het volgen van de hier beschreven instructies.

Het image kun je restoren vanuit een Linux-omgeving met het dd commando. (Je kunt ook gebruikmaken van dd for Windows)

Tip: Als je geen Linux-machine hebt dan kun je een Live-CD gebruiken zoals OpenSUSE of Knoppix Deze kunnen ook je Windows-bestandssysteem lezen waar je het image hebt opgeslagen.

Stap 1: Download eerst het bestand: Linux raw-disk-image formaat 707 Mb

Stap 2: Pak het ZIP-bestand uit

Stap 3: Controleer de download dmv het MD5 checksum bestand en het commando: md5sum -c nl_usb-1.2.img.md5

Stap 4: Het Linux-image kun je op een Linux-machine op de USB key schrijven met het commando: dd if=nl_usb-1.2.img of=<jouwusbdevice> (Daarbij staat het bestand dus in de huidige directory, je kunt ook een pad opgeven)

Tip: Om uit te vinden welk device jouw usb key is kun je bijv het commando fdisk -l gebruiken of het commando dmesg. DIt laatste commando laat na het inpluggen zien welk device je als laatste hebt toegevoegd, zoals sdb, sdc etc. Je USB-key zal dus een aanduiding krijgen zoals /dev/sdb , /dev/sdc etc.

GroupWise @ Home Survey

For many years many people have been saying – “so if GroupWise is such a great solution, why can’t I use it at home?”. And with the new version GroupWise Bonsai coming up, this gets even more interesting, as many of the new features would be an excellent fit at home as well.

Having GroupWise @ Home will make many people very happy, as this new version will beat the competition at almost all aspects.

The GroupWise community connected by GroupWiseR has had discussions with Novell about this for quite some time and now needs your feedback to really build the case for GroupWise @ Home.

You might say: using GroupWise @ Home, can’t I already do that? Well, yes, GroupWise supports POP3 and IMAP4 and you can indeed install it at home. And yes, if your organization is using GroupWise and you or your users want to use the same great solution at home, you are entitled to simply take the client and install that at home, free of charge.

However, there are still a few things missing to make this a perfect solution at home, like a wizard to make the first installation including the creation of a POP3 or IMAP4 account easier. And perhaps some menu items that are not necessary in this GroupWise @ Home mode need to be removed.

Anyway, we need your feedback on this. We’re already a bit late in the creation process of Bonsai, but it looks like the time is right to give this project a serious shot.

Join us in this initiative and let’s see if we can build a strong case to get GroupWise @ Home.

GMS 3.0 for Windows Authorized Beta

Novell GroupWise Mobile Server 3.0 for Windows is now accepting applications for authorized beta sites.

GroupWise Mobile Server (GMS), powered by Nokia Intellisync 3.0, is the latest version of the industry leading mobility solution, for Novell GroupWise. It offers many exciting new features, including support for rich HTML emails, busy search capability and a new and improved protocol, designed to decrease bandwidth usage and preserve battery life.

Beta OpenOffice.org 3.0

oooVan OpenOffice.org 3.0 is de openbare beta uitgebracht. Deze versie ondersteunt een reeks van bestandsformaten, waaronder OpenDocument Format (ODF) 1.2, ingelezen kunnen worden de bestanden van Microsoft Office 2007 (.docx, .xlsx en .pptx), naast de meer traditionele .doc, .xls en .ppt. De standaard applicaties als de tekstverwerker en het spreadsheet (Writer en Calc) hebben ingrijpende verbeteringen ondergaan. De beta is er voor Windows, Linux, Mac OS X en OpenSolaris. De definitieve versie van 3.0 moet in september het daglicht zien.

Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3

Windows XP3 logoMicrosoft heeft na een korte uitstel Service Pack 3 voor Windows XP uitgebracht. Het pakket kan via Windows Update automatisch geïnstalleerd worden, maar kan ook van Download Center als stand-alone installatie in de Nederlandse (306MB) en Engelse (316MB) versie gedownload worden. Service Pack 3 voor Windows XP bevat niet alleen alle beveiligingsupdates en patches die tot nu toe zijn uitgebracht, maar ook de vernieuwingen die SP1 en SP2 hebben geïntroduceerd. Daarnaast brengt ook SP3 nieuwe features met zich mee, zoals Network Access Protection en een verduidelijkt configuratiescherm. Welke veranderingen Service Pack 3 nog meer doorvoert, kan in dit nieuwsbericht worden gelezen.
