OpenOffice.org Novell® Edition for Windows* is a full productivity suite which provides word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, drawing and database capabilities. With OpenOffice.org Novell Edition for Windows, enterprises can dramatically lower costs while gaining the key functionality of Microsoft* Office and interoperability with Microsoft Office file formats.

Key Features of OpenOffice.org Novell Edition for Windows OpenOffice.org Novell Edition for Windows contains enhancements and bug fixes, especially for interoperability with Microsoft Office and other word processing programs, that are not available in the standard edition. These enhancements include:

  • Microsoft Excel*: Compatibility: Added support for multiple formula syntax for cell and cell range addresses and formula expressions: Calc A1 – the traditional format (default), Excel A1, and Excel R1C1. Text numbers and dates are interpreted as numbers or dates when appropriate, similar to how Excel interprets text as numbers or dates. OpenOffice.org Novell Edition allows toggling of cell grid lines per sheet. Also supports: user-defined tab colors, PHONETIC function support for Japanese phonetic guides, showing/hiding data from hidden rows in charts, correct rendering of charts with mixed chart types, Excel export encryption, document and sheet protection password & limited sheet protection options, external range names, and many details of the Calc user interface have been tweaked to make migration from Excel to OpenOffice.org easier.
  • Excel VBA Macro Interoperability: OpenOffice.org Novell Edition eases the migration of many macros from Microsoft Excel. Although not all macros can be successfully migrated, this interoperability offers more than the standard edition, which does not support migration of macros.
  • Data Pilots: Data Pilots are interoperable with Microsoft Office PivotTables*. OpenOffice.org Novell Edition substantially improves the Data Pilot feature, making it possible to edit pilots after creation, allowing to assign custom field names, field members names, subtotal and grand total names, showing popup window for quick editing of show/hide field members, and defaulting to a new sheet for new tables.
  • Enhanced Fonts: Licensed fonts from Agfa* Monotype* which are metrically identical and visually compatible with some of the key Microsoft fonts. This allows OpenOffice.org Novell Edition to match fonts when opening documents originally composed in Microsoft Office, and very closely match pagination and page formatting.
  • OpenXML Support: The abbility to export the Microsoft Office 2007 file formats. Also many improvments of the import.
  • EMF+Support: The ability to render EMF+ formatted graphics.
  • SVG Support: The ability to import scalable vector graphics.
  • Import File Formats: Microsoft Works, WordPerfect* text and graphics, T602 files, and more.
  • Groupwise® Integration:OpenOffice.org Novell Edition includes improved integration with ODMA (Open Document Management Architecture) services, for example for GroupWise. If you have the GroupWise client installed on the machine, OpenOffice.org Novell Edition will offer to open documents from GroupWise, or save documents in GroupWise.

Total Commander 7.50 bèta 1

Total Commander logo (60 pix) Christian Ghisler is al een tijdje bezig met de ontwikkeling van versie 7.50 van Total Commander. Na zeventien interne bèta’s is vandaag dan eindelijk de eerste publieke bètarelease verschenen. Total Commander is bedoeld als vervanging voor Windows Verkenner. Doordat het beeld in tweeën is gesplitst, is het eenvoudig om bestanden te kopiëren, maar het programma kan veel meer. Zo zijn er diverse manieren om bestanden aan te passen, zijn er een ingebouwde ftp-client en een multi-renametool aanwezig en is er ondersteuning voor een groot aantal compressieformaten. Verder kan de functionaliteit worden uitgebreid met plugins.

Nieuw in versie 7.50 is onder andere dat de ftp-wachtwoorden kunnen worden beveiligd met een aes256-versleuteld hoofdwachtwoord, zijn de afzonderlijke folders in de adresbalk aanklikbaar (breadcrumbs) en kan de interne archiefuitpakker nu ook met multi-volume rar-bestanden en rar-bestanden met een wachtwoord overweg. 4701005 The Novell® Client™ 2 for Windows Vista/2008* provides Windows connectivity to NetWare® and OES Linux servers. With the Novell Client, you can browse through authorized Novell directories, transfer files, and use advanced Novell services directly from a Windows Vista workstation or a Windows 2008 server.

After it is installed on workstations, the Novell Client lets users enjoy the full range of Novell services, including authentication via Novell eDirectory™, network browsing and service resolution, and secure and reliable file system access. The Novell Client 2 for Windows Vista/2008 might run but is not supported on Windows Vista Starter, Windows Vista Home Basic, and Windows Vista Home Premium editions. The Novell Client 2 for Windows Vista/2008 only supports full installations of Windows Server 2008, and is not supported on Server Core installations. The Novell Client 2 for Windows Vista/2008 will not install or run on Windows XP, 2000, or 2003.

VirtualBox logo (90 pix) Na twee bètareleases heeft Sun Microsystems vandaag de final release van versie 2.2.0 van VirtualBox uitgebracht. Dit programma kan worden gebruikt om een ander besturingssysteem in een virtuele omgeving te installeren. VirtualBox draait onder Windows 2000 en hoger, Mac OS X, Linux en Solaris, en kan overweg met een groot aantal gastbesturingssystemen.
De software is in twee versies verkrijgbaar. De volledige versie heeft meer functionaliteit, zoals ondersteuning voor usb-poorten en het remote display-protocol, maar is alleen gratis voor privé-gebruik en voor evaluatiedoeleinden. Deze extra functionaliteit is namelijk closed source en ontbreekt in de andere versie, de opensource-uitvoering. Versie 2.2.0 bevat een aantal belangrijke verbeteringen. Zo is er ondersteuning voor het Open Virtualization Format toegevoegd en is er onder andere usb-ondersteuning op OpenSolaris aanwezig, net als OpenGL voor Linux.

newcitrixlogo Citrix heeft voor zijn virtualistatie omgeving XenServer een update uitgebracht met 5.0 Update 3 als de versieaanduiding. Deze virtualisatie omgeving is gebaseerd op Xen en voegt daar handige tools aan toe om de mogelijkheden uit te breiden en het beheer eenvoudiger te maken. Met deze update wordt voornamelijk de licentie wijziging die eind februari werd aangekondigd ingevoerd.

This update is recommended for all customers and enables the recently-announced licensing changes on existing customer systems. Please be sure to install the new XenCenter version available from the download page before attempting to install this update.

If you are installing a fresh XenServer 5 system or upgrading an existing XenServer 4.x system, please use the updated installation CDs that have been made available from the My Citrix downloads section; these CDs include all hardware support updates that have been part of the XenServer 5 update series and enable these updates during installation. This patch is designed for use on existing XenServer 5 systems.
