GroupWise Mobile Server 3.0.1 for Linux – Public Beta

Novell GroupWise® Mobile Server 3 enables customers to synchronize e-mail, appointments, tasks, contacts and notes between GroupWise and hundreds of mobile devices. This capability is the result of a partnership between Novell and Nokia* Corporation to integrate Intellisync’s wireless "push" e-mail and Personal Information Management (PIM) synchronization technology with GroupWise.

Het is dan zover, de langverwachte GroupWise 8 versie a.k.a. Bonsai is beschikbaar en dat is natuurlijk reden voor een feestje. Vandaar dat ik je namens Novell en de GUG-NL van harte uit wil nodigen voor de 10-8-5 Party, op maandagavond 24 november, waar we behalve de komst van GroupWise 8 ook de 10e verjaardag van ZENWorks en de het eerste lustrum van de EMEA Summit vieren. We hebben in 2005 tijdens de 2e EMEA Summit GroupWise 7 gelanceerd, we pakken nu opnieuw uit met de 10-8-5 Party met spectaculaire prijzen, zie hieronder. OpenOffice.org 3.0 Novell Edition for Windows

Key Features of OpenOffice.org Novell Edition for Windows OpenOffice.org Novell Edition for Windows contains enhancements and bug fixes, especially for interoperability with Microsoft Office and other word processing programs, that are not available in the standard edition. These enhancements include:

  • Microsoft Excel*: Compatibility: Improved Excel compatibility for certain built-in functions (e.g., CELL, INFO, INDIRECT), hyperlinks and filters, improved ergonomics, and support for “R1C1” style addresses. Improved performance on certain text functions such as SEARCH. Natural sorting option in cell range sorting.
  • Excel VBA Macro Interoperability: OpenOffice.org Novell Edition eases the migration of many macros from Microsoft Excel. Although not all macros can be successfully migrated, this interoperability offers more than the standard edition, which does not support migration of macros.
  • Data Pilots: Data Pilots are interoperable with Microsoft Office PivotTables*. OpenOffice.org Novell Edition substantially improves the Data Pilot feature, making it possible to edit pilots after creation.
  • Enhanced Fonts: Licensed fonts from Agfa* Monotype* which are metrically identical and visually compatible with some of the key Microsoft fonts. This allows OpenOffice.org Novell Edition to match fonts when opening documents originally composed in Microsoft Office, and very closely match pagination and page formatting.
  • EMF+Support: The ability to render EMF+ formatted graphics
  • SVG Support: The ability to import scalable vector graphics.
  • Import File Formats: Microsoft Works, WordPerfect* text and graphics, T602 files, OfficeOpen XML, and more.
  • Groupwise® Integration:OpenOffice.org Novell Edition includes improved integration with ODMA (Open Document Management Architecture) services, for example for GroupWise. If you have the GroupWise client installed on the machine, OpenOffice.org Novell Edition will offer to open documents from GroupWise, or save documents in GroupWise.

Novell Compliance Management Platform

novellNovell kwam dinsdag met het Compliance Management Platform, een combinatie van bestaande en nieuwe producten. Het Compliance Management Platform bestaat uit Identity Manager 3.6 en het Security Information Management product Sentinel 6.1, aangevuld met software voor rapportage en analyse. De combinatie moet it-managers een completer beveiligingsoverzicht geven. Als voorbeeld kan het opmerkzaam maken op verdachte handelingen, zoals het inloggen in een LAN, terwijl het toegangspasje van dezelfde persoon tegelijk wordt gebruikt om toegang te krijgen tot een ander gebouw van hetzelfde bedrijf. Het Compliance Management Platform kost 99 USD per gebruiker.

Doorzetten samenwerking Microsoft-Novell

novellDe omstreden overeenkomst tussen Microsoft en Novell wordt verlengd en Microsoft koopt opnieuw ter waarde van 100 miljoen dollar aan coupons van Novell, waarmee zij ondersteuning voor SUSE Linux van Novell kan verkopen. Ook de samenwerking gaat verder, waarbij wordt gewerkt aan tools, ondersteuning en training voor het beter laten samenwerken van Windows Server met SUSE Linux Enterprise Server. Microsoft heeft tot dusverre 240 miljoen dollar aan Novell-coupons gekocht, en in de eerste 18 maanden zijn voor 157 miljoen dollar aan coupons ingewisseld.
Volgens cijfers van IDC groeide het aantal abonnementen op Novell’s SUSE Linux Enterprise server van 2006 tot 2007 met 38,6 procent, vergeleken met 20,9 procent voor Red Hat. Mede dankzij Novell’s succes daalde het marktaandeel van Red Hat licht van 64,2 procent naar 62,1 procent. Novell’s marktaandeel bedroeg in 2007 29 procent, en dat is een stijging ten opzichte van de 26,1 procent in 2006.
