Ubuntu 17.10 Will Use GNOME Shell 3.26

Most of us expected that Ubuntu 17.10 would manage to with GNOME Shell 3.26 on board — but it’s nice to hear it confirmed.

A feature-freeze exception filed pending a package update last week has been approved, and now the first packages of GNOME Shell 3.26 are filtering out through the artful-proposed repository, ready for testing by users of the Ubuntu 17.10 daily builds.

“The Ubuntu Desktop Team wants to ship gnome-shell/mutter 3.26 with Ubuntu 17.10. The new version appears to improve responsiveness and has quite a few other improvements and tweaks,” the bug reads.

Citrix XenApp / XenDesktop 7.15 LTSR

Citrix heeft een nieuwe versie uitgegeven van XenApp en XenDesktop. Het versienummer is vastgezet op 7.15 en is voorzien van het LTSR-stempel waarvan de voordelen op deze pagina uiteengezet worden. XenDesktop is een virtual desktop infrastructure, of kortweg vdi, voor het aanbieden van een gevirtualiseerde Windows desktop-omgeving. XenApp neemt het aanbieden van applicaties voor zijn rekening. Sophos XG Firewall 16.05.7 MR7

Sophos heeft een nieuwe versie vrijgegeven van zijn XG Firewall met 16.05.7 MR7 als versienummer. Deze software wordt zowel op fysieke hardware als in een soft-appliance voor VMware, Hyper-V, Xen en KVM geleverd. Naast de betaalde varianten voor bedrijven, biedt Sophos deze firewall voor thuisgebruik zonder kosten aan, zoals op deze pagina te lezen is. Virtualisatie heeft in de laatste jaren een prominente plek veroverd. Bekende namen zijn onder andere Xen en VMware. VMware heeft al weer enige tijd geleden vSphere 6.5 Update 1 uitgebracht, dat we toch nog de moeite waard vinden om hier te vermelden. Het complete platform van VMware heet vSphere en bestaat uit verschillende componenten, zoals vCenter Server, waarmee een complete virtuele omgeving kan worden beheerd, en natuurlijk de hypervisor ESXi, waarop virtuele machines hun werk kunnen doen. Kodi 17.4

Versie 17.4 van Kodi is beschikbaar gekomen. Deze crossplatform-mediacentersoftware wordt ontwikkeld voor Windows, macOS, Linux, Android en iOS. In versie 17.0 is de mogelijkheid voor het afspelen van 10bit- en hevc-materiaal toegevoegd, in combinatie met gpu’s van Intel of Nvidia die daar ondersteuning voor bieden. Ook de standaardskin is gewijzigd naar Estuary en voor apparaten met een aanraakscherm is dat Estouchy geworden. De updates daarna hebben alleen kleine veranderingen en verbeteringen gebracht en ook deze release is daar geen uitzondering op. Lees verder →

Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS is now available to download.

It is the third point release in the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS series, and the second to be released this year.

Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS will follow it early next year.

What is an Ubuntu point release?

Ubuntu LTS releases come with 5 years of ongoing package updates, bug fixes, hardware improvements, and security patches.
