Keep Your Nvidia Drivers Up-To-Date In Ubuntu Via PPA

NVIDIA is well-known company all over the world which designs the graphics processing units (GPUs) for the gaming market, as well as system on a chit units (SOCs) for the mobile computing and automotive market. GPU-accelerated computing is the use of a graphics processing unit (GPU) together with a CPU to accelerate scientific, analytics, engineering, consumer, and enterprise applications. You are here most probably because you are a Linux user and you may have faced difficulties in past while installing GPU drivers, sometimes it is really difficult to configure manufacturer drivers for NVIDIA cards in Linux, there could be many reasons for this such as kernel upgrade, dependencies issue and so. By default Ubuntu use the open source video driver Nouveau for NVIDIA graphics card. This driver lacks support for 3D acceleration and may not work with the very latest video cards or technologies from NVIDIA. A proprietay alternative to Nouveau are the closed source unified NVIDIA drivers, which are developed by NVIDIA. This driver provides excellent 3D acceleration and video card support.

Nvidia Drivers Ubuntu

Release Highlights of 367.27 Drivers for Linux:

  • Added support for VDPAU Feature Set H to the NVIDIA VDPAU driver. GPUs with VDPAU Feature Set H are capable of hardware-accelerated decoding of 8192×8192 (8k) H.265/HEVC video streams.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the X server to sometimes skip displaying Vulkan frames when the Composite extension is enabled.
  • Fixed a bug that would cause OpenGL applications to crash when creating a context on one X display connection, then making it current with no associated drawable on another X display connection. This fixes a crash when starting some versions of Matlab.
  • Fixed OpenGL presentation to SDI through the GLX_NV_video_out and GLX_NV_present_video extensions, which was broken by the introduction of the nvidia-modeset kernel module in 358.09.
  • Fixed a bug that caused an incorrect offset to be applied when using the full composition pipeline on a display whose image has both a rotation and a ViewportOut offset applied.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause nvidia-settings to crash on some systems when responding to events such as hotplugging DisplayPort devices.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause crashes in OpenGL applications which use glTextureView() with a non-zero minlevel.
  • Enhanced the Display Device information page in nvidia-settings with additional information for DisplayPort devices to reflect attributes which are specific to DisplayPort connections.
  • Fixed a bug which could cause deleted application profiles to appear when editing rules in the nvidia-settings control panel.
  • Fixed a bug that caused hangs when a G-SYNC monitor is unplugged and a non-G-SYNC monitor is connected while G-SYNC is active.
  • Fixed a bug that caused “nvidia-modeset: ERROR: GPU:0: Activating G-SYNC failed” to be printed to the system log if a G-SYNC monitor is connected and stereo is enabled in xorg.conf on a configuration that doesn’t support it.
  • Added the NV_robustness_video_memory_purge OpenGL extension, which
  • allows applications to know when a mode switching or power event purged the contents of FBOs and BOs residing in video memory.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented HDMI 2.0 4K monitors from waking up from sleep or hot-replug.
  • Fixed a bug that could lead to a system crash if there was a peer-to-peer mapping still active during CUDA context teardown.

So there are two ways to install Nvidia drivers using the Ubuntu community PPA and make sure to read information on PPA page before you proceed to installation process. Run the following two commands in the terminal then follow any method to install Nvidia drivers in your system.

New Release – VMware Horizon 7.0.1

vmware-horizon-clientVMware Horizon 7 version 7.0.1 provides the following new features and enhancements:

  • Configure the clipboard memory size for VMware Blast and PCoIP sessions
View administrators can configure the server clipboard memory size by setting GPOs for VMware Blast and PCoIP sessions. Horizon Client 4.1 users on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X systems can configure the client clipboard memory size. The effective memory size is the lesser of the server and client clipboard memory size values.
  • VMware Blast network recovery enhancements
Network recovery is now supported for VMware Blast sessions initiated from iOS, Android, Mac OS X, Linux, and Chrome OS clients. Previously, network recovery was supported only for Windows client sessions. If you lose your network connection unexpectedly during a VMware Blast session, Horizon Client attempts to reconnect to the network and you can continue to use your remote desktop or application. The nework recovery feature also supports IP roaming, which means you can resume your VMware Blast session after switching to a WiFi network.
  • Configure View Administrator to not remember the login name
View administrators can configure View Administrator to not display the Remember user name check box and therefore not remember the administrator’s login name. For more information, see KB 2145405: Configure View Administrator to not remember the login name.
  • Allow Mac OS X users to save credentials
View administrators can configure View Connection Server to allow Horizon Client Mac OS X systems to remember a user’s user name, password, and domain information. If users choose to have their credentials saved, the credentials are added to the login fields in Horizon Client on subsequent connections.
  • Horizon 7 for Linux desktops enhancements
    • Support for managed virtual machines
    • Support for smart card redirection with SSO
    • Support for Horizon Client for iOS
    • Support for SLES 12 SP1
    • Support for H.264 encoder software

LibreELEC 7.0.0

LibreELEC (Jarvis) v7.0.0 RELEASE

It’s taken six weeks crammed with activity to reach this point. The LibreELEC collective has grown to approx. 45 people (someone needs to start a who’s who guide) and there’s generally been some rather cool things happening around us. Happy times indeed.

The v7.0.0 build contains Kodi Jarvis 16.1 (final) and a fix for some Verisign SSL certificate changes that impacted Pandora add-on users. It also addresses a bluez crash, a firmware update for Intel Skylake users, a fix for an Amlogic CEC issue on WeTek Play/Core. Most importantly it also contains our new logo branding. The website, forums, wiki, and social sites on Facebook and Twitter will be updated to showcase the same change in the next 48 hours.

This also marks the point when we deep-freeze the libreelec-7.0 branch. From this milestone forwards the only commits allowed will be bug and security fixes or addon maintenance. This approach ensures our nice stable release will remain a nice stable release. It also creates a stationary target for a growing number of downstream projects who use LibreELEC as the JeOS platform for their own releases. There will be a news post to highlight some of these collaborations in the near future.

In the past few days the Add-on repo has seen updates to Docker, Chromium, Tvheadend 4.2 and a few other Kodi add-ons. We also added a new “pi tools” bundle that contains RPi.GPIO, gpiozero and picamera.

Here is the what’s new in Horizon 7.0 former Horizon View:

Instant Clones

  • A new type of desktop virtual machines that can be provisioned significantly faster than the traditional View Composer linked clones.
  • A fully functional desktop can be provisioned in two seconds or less.
  • Recreating a desktop pool with a new OS image can be accomplished in a fraction of the time it takes a View Composer desktop pool because the parent image can be prepared well ahead of the scheduled time of pool recreation.
  • Clones are automatically rebalanced across available datastores.
  • View storage accelerator is automatically enabled.

Cloud Pod Architecture Improvements

  • The Cloud Pod Architecture feature now supports a pod federation of up to 25 pods across up to five sites for a scale of 50,000 sessions.
  • In the event that resources at a user’s home site are exhausted or otherwise not available, the user is now automatically directed to available desktops at other sites.
  • Home site administration is now fully supported in View Administrator.
  • The Cloud Pod Architecture feature now allows home site assignments for nested AD security groups.
  • VMware Identity Manager is now fully integrated with the Cloud Pod Architecture feature.

Smart Policies

  • Control of the clipboard cut-and-paste, client drive redirection, USB redirection, and virtual printing desktop features through defined policies.

True SSO

  • For VMware Identity Manager integration, True SSO streamlines the end-to-end login experience. After users log in to VMware Identity Manager using a smart card or an RSA SecurID or RADIUS token, users are not required to also enter Active Directory credentials in order to use a remote desktop or application.
  • Uses a short-lived Horizon virtual certificate to enable a password-free Windows login.
  • Supports using either a native Horizon Client or HTML Access.
  • System health status for True SSO appears in the View Administrator dashboard.
  • Can be used in a single domain, in a single forest with multiple domains, and in a multiple-forest, multiple-domain setup.

Access Point 2.5 Integration

  • Smart card authentication is now fully supported.
  • RSA SecurID and RADIUS authentication have been added.
  • Smart policies can be used with Access Point.
  • VMware Blast protocol can now be directed to port 443. Previously, port 8443 was required.

Note: Access Point 2.6 version serves as a reverse proxy for VMware Identity Manager only.

URL Content Redirection for Windows Horizon Clients

  • For specific URLs, you can configure whether, when end users click a link to that URL in an Internet Explorer browser or an application, or if they type the URL into an Internet Explorer browser, that link gets opened always on a Windows-based client system or always in a remote desktop or application.
  • URL links can be links to Web pages, telephone numbers, email addresses, and more.
  • Configured through group policy.

Flash Redirection for Windows Horizon Clients (Tech Preview)

  • Flash content in an Internet Explorer browser is sent to the Windows-based client and played in a Flash container window, thereby offloading demand on the ESXi host.
  • Configured through an agent-side group policy that specifies a white list of Web sites to use Flash Redirection.

Windows Server 2016 Support (Tech Preview)

  • Windows Server 2016 can be used as an RDS host for providing remote desktops and hosted applications. For this release, Windows Universal apps are not supported as hosted remote applications. For example, Universal apps do not appear in the list of apps provided by a Windows Server 2016 RDS farm. Universal apps, such as the Microsoft Edge browser or the Calculator included with Windows 10 or a Windows Server 2016 RDS host, are built on the Universal Windows Platform (UWP). Universal apps require Windows Explorer to be run. In addition, manually launching Universal apps through the Command Prompt will show an error message.
