WordPress 2.6.5

WordPress 2.6.5 is immediately available and fixes one security problem and three bugs. We recommend everyone upgrade to this release.

The security issue is an XSS exploit discovered by Jeremias Reith that fortunately only affects IP-based virtual servers running on Apache 2.x. If you are interested only in the security fix, copy wp-includes/feed.php and wp-includes/version.php from the 2.6.5 release package.

2.6.5 contains three other small fixes in addition to the XSS fix. The first prevents accidentally saving post meta information to a revision. The second prevents XML-RPC from fetching incorrect post types. The third adds some user ID sanitization during bulk delete requests. For a list of changed files, consult the full changeset between 2.6.3 and 2.6.5.

Note that we are skipping version 2.6.4 and jumping from 2.6.3 to 2.6.5 to avoid confusion with a fake 2.6.4 release that made the rounds. There is not and never will be a version 2.6.4.

Vmware Workstation 6.5.1 build 126130

Vmware heeft buildnummer 126130 van zijn virtualisatiesoftware Workstation 6.5.1 uitgebracht. Dit pakket doet zijn werk onder Linux en Windows en is in staat om via een virtuele machine diverse besturingssystemen op de hostcomputer te laten draaien. Voor de gastcomputer kan je gebruikmaken van verschillende BSD-varianten, diverse Linux-distributies, Solaris en Windows. With this release of VMware Workstation, the following new features and support have been added:

  • Japanese localization — A localized version of Workstation is now available in Japanese for Windows hosts.
    Note: Technical Support services for Workstation are currently delivered in English. Japanese-speaking support engineers are available in a limited capacity during the operating hours of the local support center. For more information, see VMware local language support.
  • Smart card support for Linux guests — Smart cards are now experimentally supported with Linux guests.

Gimp 2.6.3

The GIMP logo (75 pix) Afgelopen zaterdag heeft The Gimp Team versie 2.6.3 van het opensourcefotobewerkingsprogramma Gimp. De naam Gimp is een afkorting voor ‘GNU Image Manipulation Program’. De software is beschikbaar voor diverse besturingssystemen, waaronder Freebsd, Linux, Mac OS X en Solaris. Hoewel het niet officieel door The Gimp Team ondersteund wordt, werkt Jernej Simoncic aan een installer die onder Windows gebruikt kan worden. In versie 2.6.0 is met name de gebruikersinterface onder handen genomen, die door het openen van de vele schermen vaak bekritiseerd werd. Verder zijn ook de eerste voorzichtige stappen gezet voor wat betreft de integratie van Gegl, die in de toekomst een hogere kleurdiepte en verbeterde editmogelijkheden moet gaan bieden.

Virtualbox 2.0.6

VirtualBox logo (90 pix) Sun Microsystems heeft vrijdag versie 2.0.6 van Virtualbox uitgebracht. Dit programma kan worden gebruikt om een ander besturingssysteem op een computer in een virtuele omgeving te installeren. Virtualbox draait onder Windows 2000 en hoger, Mac OS X, Linux en Opensolaris en kan overweg meteen groot aantal gastbesturingssystemen.

De software is in twee verschillende versies verkrijgbaar. De volledige versie heeft meer functionaliteit, zoals ondersteuning voor usb-poorten en remote display-protocol, maar is alleen gratis voor privégebruik en evaluatiedoeleinden. Deze extra functionaliteit is namelijk closed source en ontbreekt in de andere versie, namelijk de opensource-uitvoering. Virtualbox 2.0.6 is een zogenaamde onderhoudsrelease en bevat geen nieuwe functionaliteit. Wel zijn er diverse verbeteringen aangebracht en zijn er een aantal bugs verholpen.

GroupWise 8 is uit

Het is dan zover, de langverwachte GroupWise 8 versie a.k.a. Bonsai is beschikbaar en dat is natuurlijk reden voor een feestje. Vandaar dat ik je namens Novell en de GUG-NL van harte uit wil nodigen voor de 10-8-5 Party, op maandagavond 24 november, waar we behalve de komst van GroupWise 8 ook de 10e verjaardag van ZENWorks en de het eerste lustrum van de EMEA Summit vieren. Citrix: Before installing Hotfix Rollup pack 3

Voordat je Hotfix Rollup pack 3 installeerd lees je eerst CTX115626. Ik heb daar de volgende punten uit gehaald:

  • Als eerste check je CTX118771 voor bekende bugs tijdens het installeren en de oplossingen voor deze bugs.
  • Daarna upgrade je de Licentie server naar versie 11.5. Deze verzie kun je hier downloaden: Citrix Web site je hebt hier wel een MyCitrix account voor nodig.
  • Installeer daarna op alle Citrix Servers de Microsoft Visual C++ SP1 Redistributable. Deze kun je hier downloaden: Microsoft Web site.
  • Als je de Hotfix Rollup pack via een batch script unattended installeerd, kan deze setup sluiten met een foutmelding. Dit kun je omzeilen door niet de /qb switch te gebruiken maar de /qb- of de /qn switch.

Nadat je Hotfix Rollup pack 3 hebt geïnstalleerd.

  • Het kan zijn dat na de installatie van de Hotfix Rollup pack de Suite Monitoring and Alerting (SMA) service, die gebruikt wordt door het Access Management Console niet meer start. Dit kun je oplossen door Microsoft .Net 2.0 bij te werken naar SP1.

Voordat je de hotfix rolluppack gaat installeren is het ook nog verstandig om even in het Citrix forum te kijken: http://forums.citrix.com/category.jspa?categoryID=36

ESX35(i) Update 3 released

I guess you all got the e-mail from VMware, but for those who didn’t get the e-mail ESX 3.5 U3 is final.

This new release of ESX/ESXi 3.5 comes with the following enhancements:

  • Increase number of vCPUs per Core Limit (from 8 to 20)
  • New supported servers, NICs and storage IO controllers
  • New supported Guest Operating Systems

… and many more improvements and bug fixes.
