?????Citrix Systems heeft XenApp 6 geïntroduceerd, een versie met een reeks van nieuwe fucnties. XenApp 6 is compleet herschreven voor het x64-platform. Het draait nu op Windows Server 2008 R2 en ondersteunt Powershell 2.0. Nu worden ook Mac’s en Android-telefoons ondersteund door XenApp, dat wil zeggen, de Receiver client. En dat maakt Windows-applicaties op een gemakkelijke manier ook beschikbaar op Mac’s. Overigens werkt nu ook Dazzle in combinatie met Mac’s; Dazzle is een soort door de it-afdeling beheerde zelfbedieningswinkel, waar gebruikers kunnen aangeven welke applicaties ze willen gebruiken.
Citrix heeft met XenApp 6 ook het aantal usb-apparaten dat kan worden gebruikt uitgebreid, onder meer met webcams, microfoons, digitale camera’s en scanners. Met het vernieuwde AppCenter kunnen beheerders gemakkelijker vanuit een enkele plek applicaties beheren, waar vroeger meer modules nodig waren, zoals Licence Manager en de Web Interface.
Dankzij de toepasbaarheid op Windows Server 2008 R2 is de schaalbaarheid ook toegenomen; Citrix praat zelf in een blog over een test met meer dan 1000 ‘member servers’ en 100.000 sessies. Dankzij een integratie met App-V kunnen nu ook applicaties met behulp van die techniek worden ‘gestreamd’. Op 24 maart komt XenApp 6 voor downloaden beschikbaar. vSphere Client RDP Plug-in
The Xtravirt vSphere RDP Plug-in provides integration of the Windows Remote Desktop tool with the VMware vSphere Client.
Utilising Remote Desktop to connect virtual machines provides a better user experience compared to the built-in VMware console as well as performing better across WAN connections.

Novell SUSE Appliance Toolkit
Met een nieuw product van Novell, SUSE Appliance Toolkit, is het mogelijk om een hele bundel van software, met applicatie, applicatie-server, besturingssysteem en database, in een enkel virtual machine image te verpakken. Voor ondernemingen kost het product 100.000,-, maar voor software-ontwikkelaars die een business model rond SUSE Enterprise Lunix bouwen, is het gratis. De bundel van software die dankzij de toolkit over blijft wordt een ‘appliance’ genoemd, en dat is volgens Novell gemakkelijker te verkopen en ook gemakkelijker te installeren. Met name kleinere bedrijven zouden zo’n appliance, bijvoorbeeld voor ERP of CRM-systemen snel kunnen kopen en installeren. OpenOffice.org ook naar het web
OooGoogle Docs, Zoho en Office Web Apps krijgen er een concurrent bij, in de vorm van OpenOffice.org. Ook deze suite met kantoorapplicaties krijgt een web-versie. Dat maakte Oracle bekend tijdens de presentatie van de nieuwe strategie van het bedrijf. Tijdens de ‘Oracle + Sun Strategy’-presentatie ging Thomas Kurian, President Software Strategy van Oracle, in op de toekomst van OpenOffice.org. Kurian zei dat Oracle doorgaat met de ontwikkeling en marketing van OpenOffice.org. In de web-versie van OpenOffice.org worden desktop, web en mobiel gebruik geïntegreerd. “Deze uitbreiding betekent ook dat het OpenDocument bestandsformaat op al deze lagen volledige ondersteuning zal gaan krijgen. Dat is uitermate belangrijk voor interoperabiliteit en werken in open vrije standaarden,” aldus Cor Nouws, marketing contact van het Nederlandstalige project binnen OpenOffice.org en lid van de OpenOffice.org Community Council.????
